Wylie Hotel Brings Neighborly Feel to Old Fourth Ward

Forthcoming boutique hotel announces new teammates

ATLANTA (April 22, 2021) – Slated to reopen its doors this May, Wylie Hotel is excited to announce its newest teammates – general manager James Green III and culinary director Ewart Wardhaugh. They will join Liz Young, director of sales, on Wylie Hotel’s opening team to spearhead the hotel’s operations, management and food & beverage program. Young, Green and Wardhaugh bring spirit, grit and decades of hospitality know-how to Wylie Hotel – welcoming both locals and travelers to relish in the community’s rich history and placing an emphasis on developing a community-driven establishment.

“I am excited to join Wylie Hotel’s team,” said Green. “We’re looking forward to hosting the neighborhood, whether they’re staying with us, dining with a friend or enjoying the terrace for coffee and a pastry before work.”

Rounding out guests’ experiences with a diverse food & beverage program, Wardhaugh will lead the charge as culinary director – alongside his position as executive chef of Epicurean Atlanta – and will work to conceptualize menus, incorporate seasonal changes and provide ongoing consultation for the hotel. His creative direction can be seen throughout Mrs. P’s Bar & Kitchen – a Southern-inspired restaurant offering comfortable, familiar fare served in a variety of spaces, including cozy banquettes, a lively sunroom and an inviting outdoor terrace.

Partners Kim King Associates and Mainsail Lodging & Development come together to revive the former 551 Ponce de Leon Hotel, in hopes to restore the property to its roots – a homelike, friendly neighborhood hotel. After falling into disrepair over the years, Kim King Associates purchased the building in 2019 and worked in tandem with Francis “Butch” Ross, Ross Hotel Partners, to engage Mainsail Lodging & Development to oversee the hotel’s management. All parties are hoping to pay homage to the hotel’s past lives – incorporating small touches to bring its century-long stint on Ponce de Leon Avenue to the forefront, with Southern hospitality and charm at every turn.

“With Old Fourth Ward being one of Atlanta’s most historic neighborhoods, we are excited to preserve the history of the surrounding community, while bringing new life into the building,” said Beau King, CEO of Kim King Associates. “Once the opportunity presented itself, our team knew this property would be something special, and we can’t wait to show the incredible work done to such a memorable place.”

The hotel’s renovations are being led by the partnership of local architect, Stevens & Wilkinson, and Atlanta-based interior design firm Pixel Design Co. Bringing its original character back to life, Wylie Hotel will incorporate tidbits of inspiration from the building’s history with modern upgrades, including bar-centric dining concepts and technology-forward stays. The hotel will re-emerge as a 111-room boutique hotel, offering individualized, distinctive spaces unique to each guest.

Located at 551 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Wylie Hotel is anticipated to officially open its doors to visitors in mid-May. Follow along for additional updates on Instagram (@wyliehotel), or stay tuned to Wylie Hotel’s official website (wyliehotel.com) for updates.
