A modern moment with historic surroundings.

Atlanta's Oldest Neighborhood

A befitting home for our storied building

Old Fourth Ward is quite literally the heart and soul of Atlanta. Here, you’ll find the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr., the iconic Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the Sweet Auburn historic district– all touchstones of the Civil Rights Movement.

551 Ponce de Leon Hotel opened as a residential hotel, known as “The Friendly Hotel” with the “homelike atmosphere.” As a hotel, it’s lived many lives on the Ponce de Leon corridor. Residents in the basement have included Mrs. P’s Tea Room, Atlanta’s first drag bar, and later, the notorious nightclub MJQ got its start here.

Today, as Wylie Hotel, the past gleams through our front-facing brick facade. We’ve pulled through the best of what 551 once was, offering unconventional, uncompromisingly comfortable accommodations for your next jaunt to Atlanta.
